NATO ENERGY SECURITY Center of Excellence

Visit of the Portuguese Command and General Staff Officers' Course at the NATO ENSEC COE

On the 23rd of May, military students from the Portugal Military University Institute visited NATO ENSEC COE. This year, the edition of Portuguese Command and General Staff Officer’s Course includes a visit to Latvia and Lithuania. Therefore, they have also paid a visit to the Centre of Excellence to learn more about its work in the field of energy security.

The delegation included 28 Colonels from different branches (Army, Navy and Air Force), 5 of which were from Brazil. It was led by a director of the course Lieutenant General J. F. M. Moniz Côrte-Real ANDRADE. The guests were welcomed and introduced to the Centre by Andrea MANFREDINI, Head of the Doctrine and Concept Development Division. He continued with a presentation of the projects such as the Hybrid Power Generation System, Tabletop exercises 'Coherent Resilience' and others.

Since the participants of the course were highly interested in the main issues and energy security questions that the Centre deals with, Dr. Artūras PETKUS from the Strategic Analysis Division, also came up with an introduction to other ongoing projects. He shared the gathered expertise from the publications and research produced by Centre’s Subject Matter Experts. Also, while mentioning conferences and courses, Dr. Artūras PETKUS announced and invited the guests to participate at the ‘Climate change and energy security conference’ in Paris which will be organized by the NATO ENSEC COE in November.

All participants had many questions about the results of presented exercises, projects and research. After a short discussion, both sides exchanged gifts and congratulated each other on a new partnership between the Portugal Military University Institute and the NATO ENSEC COE.

Lieutenant General J. F. M. Moniz Côrte-Real ANDRADE honored NATO ENSEC COE by signing 'Guest book' and wishing the Centre all the best in doing its work and providing benefit to the NATO, Allies and Partner Nations.
