The first Energy Security Strategic Awareness Course has been completed at NATO School Oberammergau

The Energy Security Strategic Awareness Course was completed on the 2nd of October. The course had been developed by NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence in cooperation with the NATO School in Oberammergau (Germany) and the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. The one week long course brought together about 40 students from 23 NATO member and partner countries. The purpose of the course was to raise awareness on NATO role in energy security, energy geopolitics, critical energy infrastructure protection as well as energy efficiency in military domain.

“The fact that this course has happened proves that NATO is taking a huge step enhancing the awareness on Energy Security issues. Over 40 students from different countries have been attending this course and they shall bring their insights to their countries, improving Energy Security from their side, also bringing it to the whole Alliance and its partners”, – said Col. Gintaras Bagdonas, Director of NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence.

The students were given lectures on the energy geopolitics and its implication on current conflicts, maritime security, cyber defence, the role of the private sector in energy security and other related subjects. They also worked in syndicates in order to develop their own solutions to energy-related security challenges.

The course is likely to become an annual event.
