NATO identifies Energy Security’s first-ever Training Requirements
In line with NATO Education and Training (E&T) global programming, the Energy Security Training Requirement Analysis Workshop (ENSEC TRA WS) was organized by NATO ACT and supported by the Requirement Authority (IS Emerging Security Challenges Division). The workshop was hosted by the Energy Security Centre of Excellence from the 10th to the 12th of December, 2013 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The main purpose of this ENSEC TRA WS was to look into NATO’s Education and Training situation in Energy Security in order to collect and share information on requirements and opportunities within E&T initiatives. Therefore, SME’s originating from NATO HQ (ACT JFT, JFC Brunssum) but also from different educational platforms (BDCOL, NATO School Oberammergau, US NPS Monterrey) and other COE’s (MARSEC, CCD) were joined by representatives of the Framework Nation (MFA, MoD) and other members of the Energy Security Community of interest. Together, they dedicated themselves to map and collect E&T opportunities within NATO’s framework in order to match them with the new requirements in order to identify gaps and avoid redundancies.
The workshop gave also the possibility to different SME’s to present their areas of work stressing the need for continuous NATO’s involvement in Energy Security in different domains (Maritime Security, Cyber Security, Etc.). The ENSEC TRA WS has established itself as a successful event in an area where NATO is pioneering. The workshop laid down the basis for the development of training courses on different levels in the area of energy security. The results of the ENSEC TRA WS will be reflected in the Final ACT Report on TRA, which will be the basis to conduct Training Needs Analysis. The different requirements and opportunities will be reviewed during the Discipline Conference scheduled for spring 2015.
