NATO ENSEC COE Subject Matter Experts’ visit to the Dutch Pipeline Organisation Continues

During the ongoing visit to the Netherland’s Defence Pipeline Organization (DPO) which is a part of NATO Central Europe Pipeline System (CEPS) risk study, Subject Matter Experts from NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence have also visited the shipping port of Rotterdam – the largest port in Europe. This harbour is an important fuel entry point of NATO CEPS in which “Vopak” – the leading Dutch independent tank storage company operates and manages the offloading of fuel from the ships and transfers it to the NATO CEPS.

NATO ENSEC COE’s experts Vytautas Paul BUTRIMAS and Col. Dr. Reiner ZIMMERMANN met the colleagues from “Vopak”, DPO and continued the CEPS Risk study. At this stage of study, NATO ENSEC COE’s experts thoroughly investigated pipeline controlling systems and followed pipe flow routes to better understand the bigger picture. Afterwards, during the meetings, study participants made presentations and discussed ways to improve cybersecurity of strategic infrastructure, in this case – pipeline operations.

The NATO Central Europe Pipeline System programme manages the operation, financing and maintenance of an integrated, cross-border fuel pipeline and storage system in support of NATO's operational military requirements during peacetime, crisis and conflicts, including expeditionary operations.
