NATO ENSEC COE participated in Energy Education & Training Working Group meeting

NATO ENSEC COE's subject matter expert MAJ Remigijus Zilinskas represented NATO ENSEC COE the only non-US entity at the 4th Energy Education & Training Working Group meeting. The event was held on 18-19 of February 2016 at the Mark Centre and Pentagon, Washington DC. The meeting was organised by the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Operational Energy (OSD (OE)), the Office of Naval Research (ONR), and the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS).

The mission of the EETWG is to create a community of DoD energy professionals and provide a forum for energy knowledge sharing across Department of Defence (DoD), industry, and academia in order to promote the importance of energy education and training across DoD, strengthen the energy security of U.S. and Partner Nation military operations, improve U.S., NATO and Partner Nation military capabilities, and lower operational and strategic risk to U.S., NATO and Partner Nation military forces. The focus for EETWG4 was on Operational Energy strategy and its implementation. OSD (OE) representative briefed participants on the opportunities and challenges of Operational Energy (OE). U.S. Combatant Commands (COCOM) presented briefs on their OE needs and Energy Plans in order to better inform OSD(OE) and the Service Headquarters as to how they can best support the COCOMs.

The NATO ENSEC COE has been collaborating with U.S. NPS since 2013 in the developing and delivering E&T solutions on Energy security for NATO and Partners nations. It is worth mentioning that U.S. is in the joining process to the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence to be finalised in the course of 2016.
