NATO ENSEC COE has completed its organized course at the Baltic Defence College
On 22nd of March, the NATO ENSEC COE has completed its organized course on Operational Level Energy Security which was conducted at the Baltic Defence College. A week-long course was based on NATO’s three stated pillars of energy security: energy security awareness, critical energy infrastructure protection, and energy efficiency in military operations.
Various experts from NATO ENSEC COE took part in this course by delivering lectures and activities concerning these related issues. One of the most important questions of this course – Cybersecurity - was tackled by the Subject Matter Expert from NATO ENSEC COE’S Research and Lessons Learned Division (RLLD) Vytautas Paul Butrimas. Using VTC expert delivered 2 lectures on the importance of Cyber Security in Energy Sector and presented his insights on recent developments in the current geopolitical environment.
Later on, Vytautas Paul Butrimas introduced the scenarios for a Tabletop Exercise “Cyber Threat to the Electric Grid” and emphasized cybersecurity’s importance and its impact on protecting critical energy infrastructure. Therefore, 24 Students from nine partner countries (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Poland, Slovakia, USA, Italy and Sweden) received up-to-date theory and practical skills on Cybersecurity’s role in military operations and energy infrastructure – subjects that are highly important in finding solutions to current challenges in the field of energy security.
