NATO Energy Security COE delegation meets with France Service d’ Infrastructure de la Defence
The delegation of the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence, consisting of the Deputy Director, the Head of Doctrine and Concept Development Division and the Legal Advisor, attended a coordination meeting with the France SGA – Service d’ Infrastructure de la Defence – at its Headquarters in Versailles, France. The delegation was welcomed by Directeur central General Bernard Fontan who shared his interest in the energy security and mutual cooperation with the NATO ENSEC COE. The aim of the meeting, chaired by Chief of Operational Staff of Central Administration (SID) Colonel Jean Philippe Terrec, was to discuss and establish cooperation for the NATO ENSEC COE experiment “Energy Management (EM) in the military expeditionary environment”.
The aim of the experiment is to verify the feasibility of the application of EM models tailored for military deployed infrastructures (i.e. camps) and based on recognised international EM models. If feasible, it could provide a quantitative energy saving and increase the operational capabilities by reducing the logistic effort needed to supply energy to the camps.
The NATO ENSEC COE, together with relevant private international companies and experts, carried out a study of feasibility, developing a draft guide on how to systematically apply an EM model with a logical plan to conduct implementation, execution, data collection, analysis, and reporting of results.
The coordination meeting was very efficient in the way that French representatives have confirmed their capacity to provide personnel and a venue in order to implement the experiment.
