National Defence Course students from Sweden visited the NATO ENSEC COE

On 21st of March, NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence hosted 40 representatives from Swedish Defence University which participate in the University’s National Defence Course. This 10 week course focuses mainly on crises management and total defence. The National Defence Course is attended by representatives from government agencies, government officials, municipalities, private sector as well as NGOs. The guests were received by the NATO ENSEC COE Director Colonel Romualdas PETKEVIČIUS and Deputy Director Pascal FERNANDEZ.

NATO ENSEC COE Director COL Romualdas PETKEVIČIUS presented the Centre, its tasks and future activities. Some specific important projects were presented by Head of Doctrine and Concept Development Division, Commander Andrea MANFREDINI, and Subject Matter Expert, Tadas JAKŠTAS. After the presentation the NATO ENSEC COE subject matter experts answered questions and shared their knowledge and experience with guests which were very keen to learn more about how energy warfare affects the military and civil defence, society as a whole. Moreover, they were interested in Ukraine’s experience and the aspects on how does energy warfare affect the society, what were the first or second order effects and how a nation should act in order to prepare itself for both war and peacetime. The National Defence Course was followed by a crisis simulation at the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania.

The National Defence Course coordinator Michael MALM from Swedish Defence University was grateful to the NATO ENSEC COE for this opportunity to meet and discuss important questions concerning the connection between energy warfare and military defence. NATO ENSEC COE is glad to be a partner of such educational institution as Swedish Defence University and is always keen to mutually share its knowledge and experience with its partners.
