NATO ENERGY SECURITY Center of Excellence

Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs visited ENSECCOE

On 23 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius visited the Vilnius-based NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence and stressed the importance of energy security for politics today, as well as its important part in NATO’s activities and planning, in particular in the fight against the new hybrid threats.

In a meeting with the Director of the Centre Col. Gintaras Bagdonas and other employees, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister wished them every success in their future endeavours.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister pointed out that the current geopolitical situation in the world, hybrid wars and cyber threats were real and closely linked to energy security threats. NATO Centres of Excellence in all the Baltic States – the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence in Vilnius, the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence in Tallinn, the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence Riga – opened up new opportunities for strengthening cooperation to counter these challenges.

Accredited on 12 October 2012, the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence currently operates as a widely recognized international military organization with an aim of providing qualified and appropriate expert advice on issues related to operational energy security.
