Lithuanian Armed Forces received new generation Hybrid Power Generation System from the NATO ENSEC COE

On the 4th February, the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence (NATO ENSEC COE) has introduced and formally transfered Deployable Modular Hybrid Power Generation and Management System (HPGS) to the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The new and unique system among the members of the Alliance utilizes both, renewable energy sources and conventional fuel.

“Today’s event marks the new page in our Centre’s history. I am very glad that we, along with Canada, can contribute to strengthening NATO and Lithuanian Armed Forces. This System is very modern equipment that will allow us to gather all the research data and improve energy efficiency in all allied countries,” – the Director of the NATO ENSEC COE Col Gintaras Bagdonas said.

The Deployable Modular Hybrid Power Generation and Management System will be handed over to the Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytenis Main Support Logistics Battalion and used during a range of multinational exercises.

The event will be conducted in the presence of Vice Minister of National Defence Antanas Valys, representatives of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, the NATO ENSEC COE, the NATO Force Integration Unit (NFIU), NATO commands, foreign ambassadors, defence attachés, and other guests.

The Deployable Modular Hybrid Power Generation and Management System uses conventional fuel and renewable sources, such as wind or solar energy. The electricity power obtained through renewable sources is charged into batteries for storing it there. The system will be used to improve energy efficiency and diminish dependence from conventional power sources. The new system is capable of supplying power to a battalion-sized unit.

The Deployable Modular Hybrid Power Generation and Management System was developed on Canadian funding. Canada made a contribution of CAD 1 million to the project of the NATO ENSEC COE on the basis of its growing relevance in the region.
