Latvian delegation visited the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence

On 8^th of September, the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence (NATO ENSEC COE) was visited by Latvian delegation. The Minister of Latvian Economics Mr. Jānis Vitenbergs and the Latvian Ambassador to Lithuania Mr. Indulis Bērziņš was welcomed by the Centre’s director colonel Darius Užkuraitis and the representative of Latvia to the NATO ENSEC COE Inga Puikevica-Puikevska.

During the meeting the Centre’s deputy Director Lieutenant colonel (LTC) Christophe Nave introduced to visitors NATO ENSEC COE history, structure and mission. Education training and exercise division representative major Tomas Trepšas explained importance and aim of „Core 21-Baltic” exercises which will be focused on Baltics electric grid synchronization and resilience. Latvian representative from Strategic analysis division Inga Puikevica-Puikevska presented Baltic states and Poland fuel supply strategic analysis.   

At the end of the meeting the Latvian minister of Economics thanked for presentation of NATO ENSEC COE activity.

The NATO ENSEC COE was establised on 10^th of July and accredited on 12^th of October, 2012. Currently it operates as a widely recognized international military organization with the aim of providing qualified and appropriate experts advices on questions related to operational energy security.

The mission of the NATO ENSEC COE is to assist Strategic Commands, other NATO bodies, nations, partners, and other civil and military entities by supporting NATO’s capability development process, mission effectiveness, and interoperability in the near, mid and long terms by providing comprehensive and timely subject matter expertise on all aspects of energy security. The mission includes cost effective solutions to support military requirements, energy efficiency in the operational field, and interaction with academia and industry.
