High ranking delegation from the Republic of Portugal visited the NATO ENSEC COE

On the 27th of August the NATO ENSEC COE was visited by the diplomatic delegation from Portugal. The guests were headed by the Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Portugal, Mr João Gomes CRAVINHO. The Minister was accompanied by H.E. Rita LARANJINHA, Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to the Kingdom of Denmark.

The guests were met by the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence Director, COL Romualdas PETKEVIČIUS. The Centre’s Director briefed the guest about the NATO ENSEC COE history, mission and structure. Head of the Strategic Analysis Division Dr. Artūras PETKUS and Head of the Doctrine and Concept Development Division CDR Andrea MANFREDINI talked the guest through the main on-going research projects, organized courses and main events.

The guests were particularly interested in the Centre’s impact on region’s energy infrastructure security and exercises that contribute to the energy security topic. The Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Portugal was interested in NATO ENSEC COE studies about fuel supply of the NATO southern flank and Baltic region. Also, the Centre’s prototype Hybrid Power Generation and Management System (HPGS), which participated in several international military exercises and experiments, was widely discussed and presented as a positive energy efficiency example.

At the end of the meeting the Minister thanked hosts for a warm welcome and congratulated the Centre’s activities. The Centre’s Director extended an invitation to the Republic of Portugal to join the NATO ENSEC COE in the near future as the work done by the Centre is vital to all NATO Member Nations energy security and resilience.
