High Ranking Delegation from Sweden’s Ministry of Defence Visited the NATO ENSEC COE

During an official two-day visit to Lithuania, delegation from the Swedish Ministry of Defence visited the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence. Delegation was headed by the State Secretary to Minister for Defence, Mr Jan-Olof LIND. The Secretary was accompanied by the Deputy Director-General and Head of Department for Security Policy and International Relations, Ms Lena BARTHOLDSSON, together with Defence Attaché of Sweden to Lithuania, Lieutenant Colonel Örjan STRÖM.

The Swedish delegation was welcomed by the Centre’s Director Col. Romualdas PETKEVIČIUS together with the Head of the Strategic Analysis Division, Dr. Artūras PETKUS, and Subject Matter Expert, Julia VAINIO. Centre’s representatives introduced honourable guests to the NATO ENSEC COE mission, current tasks and main projects. Dr. Artūras PETKUS overviewed the issues related to fuel supply chain in NATO and energy efficiency in military. SME Julia VAINIO briefed guests on electricity network and synchronization in Baltic States.

Visitors paid significant attention to the activities in the Baltic Sea Region, especially – the protection of critical energy infrastructure. Participants of the meeting discussed these issues and agreed for wider cooperation in exchange of information and Subject Matter Experts for future projects. To strengthen partnership, the NATO ENSEC COE Director Colonel Romualdas PETKEVIČIUS invited Sweden to join the Centre as a 12th Member Nation.
