Critical Infrastructure and it's Cyber Security importance in a lecture delivered by NATO ENSEC COE

On the 8th of December, Mr. Vytautas Butrimas, a Subject Matter Expert on Cyber Security of Critical Energy Infrastructure from the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence, delivered a lecture in a "Program on Cyber Security Studies (PCSS)" at the Marshall Center in Garmische-Partenkirchen, Germany.

The "Program on Cyber Security Studies" is aimed at senior government officials who require a comprehensive understanding of emerging cyber security threats and the impact these threats present in the transnational cyber security environment. The program is tailored for officials responsible for developing cyber strategies, legislation, and policies. This year the Program is organized from 5th to 21th of December.

Mr. Vytautas Butrimas, together with the colleague from the U.S. Department of Defense, spoke to an audience of more than 80 government, political and military representatives gathered from Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia. They both stressed out the complexity and intricacies of the cyber component in the deployment and management of critical infrastructures, and the possible security threats coming from lightly protected or outdated systems that are used in critical infrastructure management modules.

In light of the recent critical gas transit station explosion in Austria of special concern proved to be the energy systems that can potentially cause extensive passive or active collateral damage to the surrounding or even distant populations that the energy infrastructure services.
