On January 22-24 dr. Arunas Molis, Head of NATO ENSEC COE Strategic analysis and research division participated at the NATO Training Synchronization Conference - Combined NATO Individual Training and Educational Conference (NITEC) and Education Forum 2013 in Riga, Latvia. Its aim was to provide updates on NATO Education and Individual Training policies, capabilities and management whie collecting feddback to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and affordability of education and training.

During this event the participants were informed that in July 2012 Lithuania as a framework nation together with 5 other NATO member states created NATO Energy security Center of excellence, which was accredited by NAC October last year. It was stressed, that staffing, including the arrival of international personnel is ongoing, but in general is rapid and successful process. It has been also noticed, that NATO‘s Energy Security Education and Training Plan released in December 2012 encouraged this Center to become Department Head in the area of operational energy security. We hope that Center‘s Steering Committee will take positive decision on this already at the end of the next month.

Prior to this, Center’s experts with support from ACT started to work on ADL course in the area of operational energy, and what is even more important – to prepare training landscape development conference, which will be held in Vilnius on 11-12 September 2013. ACT Joint Force Trainer has been invited to become the co-organizer of this first Discipline or Training landscape development conference, whatever we call it. The aim of this Conference will be to identify the existing gaps in the area of training on operational energy, start defining NATO needs and requirements in this area, recruiting needed experts and lecturers from partner institutions, etc. In other words, I can assure you that Vilnius based Center is actively engaging into NATO’s individual training process, having a vision to transform training into a major activity of the Center which will generate real added value for NATO.
