3rd NATO ENSEC COE Steering Committee meeting concluded in Trakai, Lithuania

The Steering Committee of the newly-established NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence (NATO ENSEC COE) met on 18 July 2012 in Trakai.

All sponsoring nations of the NATO ENSEC COE, Estonia, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, France and Turkey, participated in the Steering Committee meeting. In addition, representatives from Sweden, the United Kingdom and United States attended as observers - countries which are interested in joining the NATO ENSEC COE.

The meeting was chaired by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mr. Andrius Krivas.

Participants of the meeting discussed opportunities for cooperation with non-governmental organizations and partners, implementation of Programme of Work for 2113 as well as  activities of the NATO NESEC COE for 2014.

The Centre is located at the General Jonas Zemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy. International staff consists of representatives from each of Sponsoring Nations. Colonel Romualdas Petkevičius, a delegate from Lithuania, serves as the Director of the NATO ENSEC COE.

The NATO ENSEC COE was established  on 10 July, 2012 and was granted a status of NATO body and International Military Organization by North Atlantic Council  on 12 October, 2012. The mission of the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence is to assist NATO, NATO nations, Partners and other bodies by supporting NATO`s capability development process, mission effectiveness and interoperability by providing comprehensive and timely expertise on aspects of energy security.
