NATO ENSEC COE is conducting the Operational Level Energy Security Course in cooperation with Baltic Defence College

NATO ENSEC COE’s Director, Colonel Romualdas Petkevičius made an opening speech at the Baltic Defence College for the week-long Operational Level Energy Security Course. It is the first iteration of the course which will be conducted by NATO ENSEC COE from 18-22 March 2019. Director’s concluded his speech with a brief presentation on the Centres energy-security related studies, research, and training programs.

The aim of the Operational Level Energy Security Course is to provide students with knowledge of the importance of energy and energy security in the current geopolitical environment and their influence on military operations.

The course lectures and activities are delivered by the NATO ENSEC COE’s staff and expert partners from NATO Headquarters Emerging Security Challenges Division, Bilkent University in Ankara, the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, the Military Academy of Lithuania, the Hybrid Center of Excellence in Finland, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Each day’s main topics are organized with consideration to NATO’s three stated pillars of energy security: energy security awareness, critical energy infrastructure protection, and energy efficiency in military operations. 24 students are attending the course from the Baltic Defence College Higher Command Studies Course (HCSC), Joint Command and General Staff Course (JCGSC), and Civilian Servant Course (CSC) who chose to participate as an elective. They are joined by other military and civilian participants sent by NATO and partner countries.  Nine nations are represented in total (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Poland, Slovakia, USA, Italy and Sweden).
